This year, the Central University Publishing Center has published two mathematics-related books. One is "Mastering English and Math" by Professor Shann Wei-Chang from the Department of Mathematics, and the other is "A Math Boy's Journey Through Pi" by Professor Chang Jenn-Hwa, an alumnus who graduated from the Department of Mathematics 50 years ago.
"Mastering English and Math" aims to prepare high school students for potential all-English teaching environments in universities, greatly supporting the current EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) teaching initiative. "A Math Boy's Journey Through Pi" attempts to demystify mathematics by embedding mathematical concepts within stories, creating an engaging extracurricular science book suitable for high school students.
Both Professor Shann Wei-Chang and Professor Chang Jenn-Hwa have been tirelessly promoting mathematics education in Taiwan. At the book launch held on May 21 at Hongjing Hall, they encouraged students to persist in their studies of mathematics and language and to always allocate time for thoughtful reflection to achieve success.
